Second so Sweet for Geelong College in Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta

GEELONG College may have fallen short against Methodist Ladies' College yesterday, but pipping Geelong Grammar at the post was just about as sweet as winning might have been.

More than 1800 rowers from across the state descended on the Barwon River over two days for the Head of the Schoolgirls' Regatta, the pinnacle of schoolgirl rowing in Victoria.

Methodist Ladies College, which has a long-running history of success in local waters, took out the final of the open eights, finishing ahead of Geelong College, Geelong Grammar and Caulfield Grammar.

Litter on Banks Unacceptable

It is unfortunate that reports of rowers littering the banks of our waterways have again made their way to the Rowing Victoria Office.

We ask that crews make an effort to ensure that water bottles and gear are returned to the boat shed following training, and not left by the water.

James Tomkins says: "As frequent users of our rivers we need to take a leading role in caring for and improving the state of our waterways."

Storm Water Drain Claims Eight!

Crews are reminded to exercise caution during heavy rain in the wake or a serious accident on the Yarra Yarra last week.

While passing a storm water drain downstream from http://www.rowingvictoria.asn.au/SecondLevel/eupdate/template/templateimages/img-feature.jpgMacrobertson Bridge (near Burnley Golf Course), an eight was pushed onto the bridge support by the incoming flow of water. The resulting damage from seven seat to bow caused the boat to break in two.

All crew members made it to shore unharmed and most oars were recovered.

Please take care around storm water drains during wet weather.

140th Season Celebration Dinner

The Barwon Rowing Club 140th Season Celebration Dinner will be held on Saturday 17th April 2010.

The evening will start with pre-dinner drinks and nibbles by the Barwon River before moving on to Lyndon Grove, for a two course meal as well as complimentary beer, wine and soft drink.
