Tulloch Triumphs in Geelong Indoors

Geelong Arena hosted Round 2 of the Rowing Victoria – Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Championships over the weekend. Winner of the Open Men’s 2000m event was Power House Rowing Club’s Conrad Tulloch. View pictures.

Conrad began rowing in 1993, after being injured playing football, and has been rowing on and off ever since. This year Conrad was fortunate enough to row in the Henley Royal Regatta in the UK, where his crew made the semi-finals – the top four.

Legendary Olympian Tomkins Retires from Rowing

Australia’s most decorated Olympic rower, James Tomkins (VIC), has today announced his retirement from competitive rowing.

Tomkins, who represented Australia at six Olympic Games between 1988 and 2008, winning three gold medals and one bronze, turned 45 today and said the time was right to focus on the next stage in his life.

Tomkins won his first Olympic gold medal as part of the ‘Oarsome Foursome’ in the men’s four in 1992 in Barcelona, before going back-to-back in 1996 in Atlanta.

The Barwon Rowing Club Begins to Take Shape

Work on the new Barwon Rowing Club continues after beginning around April this year.

As part of the project the old club rooms have been demolished, and the new Barwon Rowing Club is beginning to take shape. Latest pictures and reports of the progress are posted on the Barwon Rowing Club website.

Rowing Victoria Seeks Nominations for Board of Directors
Nominations are sought for a number of positions on the Rowing Victoria Board of Directors, specifically President, Director of Finance and three Director roles. The positions will be elected at Rowing Victoria's 134th AGM – Sunday 26 September 2010.

Candidates should complete the following nomination form which may be used in notifying members of the nominations and the background of the candidate. Under the Rowing Victoria Constitution both proposer and seconder must be registered members of a club/school (Section 14).

World Records Attempt for Doreen
Tuesday, 17th August 2010

Doreen Gallagher will be attempting a 100m World Record this Saturday in Geelong at the 2nd Round of The Rowing Victoria & Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Tri Series at Geelong Arena in North Geelong.

Doreen started indoor rowing at the gym in 1997 when the gym she was attending had indoor rowing classes. That gym also used to host the state indoor rowing titles which she was conned into entering. Doreen had never rowed 2000mts let alone raced 2000mts. So after a couple of goes fronted up to the titles and raced, to her  surprise she won.

Legendary Tomkins Receives Highest International Honour

Australia’s most decorated rower, James Tomkins, was today awarded the highest individual honour in international rowing, the Thomas Keller Medal.

The Thomas Keller Medal is presented to an individual for an outstanding career in rowing and Tomkins is the 24th recipient of the prestigious award.
