About The Geelong College
The Geelong College, a member of the Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS), has a proud rowing tradition dating back to 1908. Our program operates from the College boatshed on the Barwon River in Geelong, as well as on-campus facilities in Newtown, and caters for boys and girls across four squads: Learn to Row, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.
We are seeking expressions of interest from passionate and experienced Rowing Coaches and Squad Coordinators to join our rowing program for the 2026/2027 season.
Positions are available across all squads and both boys’ and girls’ programs.
Co-curricular sport at The Geelong College plays an important role in student development. Coaches are responsible for supporting the technical, physical and personal development of student athletes in a safe, inclusive and high-performance environment. All staff are expected to actively uphold the values and Christian ethos of the College.
Reporting to the Director of Rowing and Head Coach, and working closely with Squad Coordinators and coaching staff, Rowing Coaches will deliver high-quality training programs and contribute to a positive and supportive team culture.
Availability and Commitment
The rowing season runs from Term 3, 2026 through to the end of Term 1, 2027, including training and camps over the December and January period. Training is conducted on the Barwon River and at College facilities and may occur across mornings, afternoons and weekends depending on squad requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Rowing Australia Level 1 Coaching Accreditation (or willingness to obtain; higher accreditation desirable for Coordinator roles)
- Marine or recreational boat licence (or willingness to obtain)
- Light Rigid licence for trailer towing (desirable)
- Previous coaching experience in rowing and/or school sport (desirable)
- Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with young people in a school environment
Essential Compliance Requirements
- Current Working with Children Check (Employee status), or ability to obtain
- Completion of College anaphylaxis training (or accredited equivalent)
- Current First Aid (HLTAID011), CPR (HLTAID009) and Asthma Management certification
- Completion of the Protecting Children – Mandatory Reporting and other Obligations module (Victorian Department of Education and Training)
- Provide Evidence of Right to Work in Australia
- Victorian Driver’s Licence

About the Role
St Catherine’s School is seeking a highly organised and student-centered Rowing Coordinator to drive the daily operations of the Rowing Program for the 2026/27 season.
This full-time, fixed-term role blends logistics with dedicated pastoral care, ensuring student wellbeing is at the center of every decision. Working closely with the Director of Rowing, the successful candidate will coordinate training schedules, regatta entries, camp logistics, and communications across the program.
As a highly visible pastoral figure within an all-girls environment, the Rowing Coordinator acts as a trusted advocate, providing a safe and welcoming space for students navigating the unique physical, emotional, and academic demands of competitive sport. This position plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive, psychologically safe, and connected community - helping students balance school and sporting commitments, build resilience, and develop a lifelong love of rowing.
To be successful in this opportunity you will require:
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating rowing programs and/or squads with a strong focus on student wellbeing and sustainable training practices.
- Strong organisational skills, including scheduling, logistics, and record keeping.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students, parents, and staff in an all-girls environment.
- Proven capacity to provide empathetic pastoral care, acting as a trusted advocate for adolescent girls navigating the pressures of competitive sport.
- Understanding of rowing operations, including regatta preparation, safety protocols, and equipment management with an uncompromising approach to both physical and psychological safety.
- Ability to lead by example, modelling the School’s values and fostering an inclusive, student-centred culture that balances competitive drive with peer support.
- Current Working with Children Check, First Aid and CPR qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Boat licence (or ability to obtain) desirable.

Key Responsibilities
- Managing all aspects of the rowing program - from overall strategic goals to individual crew training plans, schedules and staffing;
- Overseeing crew selection, feedback and development;
- Fostering a positive, inclusive, high performance team culture;
- Managing and supporting a dedicated crew of assistant coaches;
- Keeping equipment and rowing shed in excellent working order and adhering to maintenance requirements;
- Organising regattas, camps and rowing related events;
- Establishing a collaboraitve working relationship with stakeholders such as parents, Friends of Rowing and regulatory bodies; and
- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of crews and staff.
About You
To thrive in this role, you will draw upon your passion for rowing and:
- experience developing a high-performance rowing program and crew rowing techniques;
- experience onboarding and leading a team of coaches to develop their performance;
- abiltiy to instil a positive, inclusive and team-driven culture;
- sound knowledge of coaching practices and methodologies, competition and guideines regulations regarding rowing;
- demonstrated success managing and maintaining rowing equipment and property; and

We are recruiting a Head Coach to help lead our community-focused club, fostering an environment of engagement, learning, and fun. Working closely with the Head of Rowing, the Head Coach role is responsible for designing and implementing a training program – suitable for competitive rowers from beginner through to masters – that encourages participation, growth, and camaraderie within the club.
We are also accepting applications for casual coaches to join the coaching team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills further or for experienced coaches to share their wisdom for a few hours a week.

Role: Photographer
A photographic website run by rowers for rowers, Australian Rowing Images website (ARI), is seeking to contract with photographers to cover major Victorian regattas. Photographers need to have their own equipment (although may borrow equipment from the proprietor), have an ABN and current Working With Children Check, be robust given it is an outdoors task, and be able to upload their images regularly from the regatta to the cloud for processing by others same day onto the site. A daily rate will be negotiated depending on experience and regatta venue. Regattas to be covered include Victorian Championships, major school events and Australian Henley.
Amateur photographers with a rowing background are encouraged to apply. Although photographers will be acknowledged, copyright in the photos will pass to ARI.
