Rowing Victoria Umpires/Officials are the life blood of our regattas. Rowing Victoria values and respects the contribution of all our volunteers in whatever capacity they may fulfill. We realise that the work they do is essential to the functioning of rowing as a sport in Victoria.

To abide by the Victorian Child Safe Standards, ALL qualified and practicing Level 1 and 2 Umpires are required to possess and submit a current WWCC.

LEVEL 1 UMPIRE COURSE

ACCREDITED UMPIRE LIST (19/4)

Become an Umpire

Step 1: Complete the online Trainee Level 1 Umpire Course above.

• A score of at least 20/25 is required to receive an RV Umpire Accreditation.

Step 2: Complete the following induction form, including Working with Children Check submission.

• General Volunteer Induction Form

Step 3:  Complete four different physical elements at a regatta; control, start marshal, bank umpire and judge.

• These are to be completed and will be signed off by a Level 2 Umpire on our online database.
• You will have 12 months to complete all elements. If you are unable to do so, you will be required to complete the course again the following year.
• You can complete 2 elements in one day at one regatta, i.e. control in the morning and bank umpire in the afternoon. This will fast-track your accreditation.
• If participants are interested and would like to complete their qualification sooner, RV can roster participants on to ensure all areas are completed promptly and further training can be organised if they wish to become a Level 2 Umpire.
• Upon completion of all components above, your accreditation will be valid for 4 years.

Step 4: Become a Level 2 Umpire.

• Qualified Level 1 Umpires are encouraged to continue training to become an accredited Level 2 Umpire.

Guidelines for Volunteer Recognition

Rowing Victoria Boat Race Officials are the life blood of our member's regattas.

Rowing Victoria values and respects the contribution of all our volunteers in whatever capacity they may fulfill.  We realise that the work they do is essential to the functioning of rowing as a sport in Victoria.

The aim of these guidelines is to ensure that the work of our volunteers is recognised by our members, and that our volunteers in turn feel appreciated for their work.

The RV Board, staff and members will endeavor to follow the guidelines below when recognising volunteers;

• Recognise all volunteers in some way
• Give personal recognition, specific to the individual's needs and wants
• Provide a clear description outlining the expectations of the volunteer to prevent overwork and assist in future recruitment
• Pay personal attention to volunteers - get to know them and show an interest in what is happening in their lives
• Understand the motivation of our volunteers
• Endeavour to recognise our volunteers' efforts in a timely manner
• Provide both formal and informal recognition
• Encourage volunteers to develop their skills and assist them to assume additional and greater responsibilities
• Assist volunteers in maintaining appropriate records of experience that will help them in future career opportunities, both paid and volunteer.
