Nominations are now open for the Annual Rowing Victoria Awards

Nominations for the below awards will close on Friday 18 August 2023.

Awards will be presented at the 2023 Rowing Victoria Annual Awards - Date TBC

 

To be eligible to vote, you must be a member of an RV Association, Club or School in the 2022-2023 season and clearly state your name and affiliated body upon nomination

The following awards are open for nominations (please see below for award descriptors):

- Club Person of the Year

- Coach of the Year

- School Person of the Year

- Regatta of the Year

- The William Waterfield Outstanding Service Award

- The Kath Bennett Community Service Award

- The Bob Duncan Award

- The Susie Palfreyman Award

 

Please consider and address the below 'Key Criteria' for any / all nominations.
The key criteria will be used to assess all applications for all nominations.

Please also download this document for further Criteria which will be taken into account by the Judging Panel.

 

Club Person of the Year

The Club Person of the Year award is presented to a club member for their outstanding efforts over the past 2022-23 season.

1.  The nominee has demonstrated respect, initiative and personal commitment to the sport of rowing and to their club.

2.  The nominee has demonstrated their ability to work as part of a team and is well respected amongst peers / club mates.

3.  The nominee has achieved success in their position and feels a sense of achievement in their contribution to their club.

 

Coach of the Year

The Coach of the Year award is presented to a coach for their outstanding efforts over the past 2022-23 season.

1.  The nominee has included a broad range of rowers in their program and has modified and individualised techniques, equipment and coaching methods to cater for all.

2.  The nominee has implemented a system which deals with any issues that may arise such as harassment, conflict and other ethical issues.

3.  The nominee has encouraged their rowers to participate in a range of regattas and other programs to improve their development.

4.  The nominee has been willing to volunteer their time to the development of the sport and contributed to the wider rowing community.

5.  The nominee has been involved in working with less experienced coaches to assist with the development and growth of the next generation of coaches.

 

School Person of the Year

The School Person of the Year award is presented to a school member for their outstanding efforts over the past 2022-23 season.

1.  The nominee has demonstrated respect, initiative and personal commitment to the sport of rowing and to their school.

2.  The nominee has demonstrated their ability to work as part of a team and is well respected amongst peers / colleagues / club mates.

3.  The nominee has achieved success in their position and feels a sense of achievement in their contribution to their school.

 

Regatta of the Year

The Regatta of the Year award is presented to an outstanding regatta from the past 2022-23 season.

1.  The regatta has a strong volunteer base.

2.  The regatta is strongly supported by external stakeholders.

3.  The regatta has great atmosphere, regatta committee thinks outside the square and non rowing activities provided.

4.  The regatta has considered 5 and 10 year regatta plans.

*The 2022-23 report from the President of the Jury will also be taken into consideration.

 

The William Waterfield Outstanding Service Award

Outstanding service to Victorian rowing

Named after life member William Waterfield, who exemplifies a long and outstanding service to the sport in Victoria.

 

The Kath Bennett Community Service Award

Outstanding service to a rowing community in Victoria

The award is planned to capture those people who have done outstanding work in a club, regatta committee or region. Kath Bennett is a fine example of such work with reinvigorating women’s rowing prior to amalgamation with the men’s association in 1979.

 

The Bob Duncan Award

Outstanding Service to Umpiring

Bob Duncan is an Olympian but more importantly, a dedicated, long serving and excellent umpire. He led the improvement in umpiring standards and broke new ground in many aspects of umpiring.

 

The Susie Palfreyman Award

Outstanding contribution to school rowing

Susie Palfreyman continues to play a significant role in Victorian rowing, having developed a world-class program at MLC, founding the Head of the Schoolgirls regatta and continuing to support initiatives such as the Hall of Fame event. Susie continues to be a wonderful role model for Women in Rowing.
