IMPORTANT SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT

Minor flood warnings are currently in place for the upper reaches of the Yarra River catchment area which means that additional (and fast flowing water) will be heading downstream over the next few days. The Yarra River water level at Hawthorn is rising. Similar Minor Flood warnings are in place for the Goulburn River system with the Minor to Major Flood warnings in place for the Murray River downstream from Albury.

In addition to the rivers mentioned, all rivers through the state are susceptible to rising water. Currently forecast, minor flooding may develop during Monday on the Barwon, with the Mitchell River at Bairnsdale currently rising along with the Wimmera at Dimboola.
As a result, debris (both seen and unseen) will continue to flow downstream which creates a significant hazard (as we saw on the weekend).

Rowing Victoria encourages all Clubs and Schools to monitor the BOM Rainfall and River data to support their individual decision making when it comes to accessing the relevant water way. The link is here: http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/flood/rain_river.shtml

If not closed, Rowing Victoria encourages all clubs and schools to monitor the water flow where planning to train and to ensure that training only takes place if the crews are deemed competent to manage the conditions. Err on the side of caution; be careful.

Stay safe, stay rowing.
