Vale  Alan 'Al' Haynes

The rowing community is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Alan "Al" Haynes at the age of 68.

Al joined Footscray City Rowing Club in 1980 and dedicated decades of service to the club, including terms as Captain and President. In recognition of his outstanding contribution, he was awarded Life Membership in 1999.

A passionate advocate for rowing, Al's commitment extended well beyond his own club. Throughout the regatta season, he was a familiar face supporting the school rowing community, always willing to lend his time, experience and enthusiasm. A larger-than-life personality, Al played a pivotal role in the growth and management of Footscray City Rowing Club throughout the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, leaving a lasting legacy on all who knew him.

Rowing Victoria extends its sincere condolences to Al's family, friends and the entire Footscray City Rowing Club community during this difficult time.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
