AUSTRALIAN MASTERS ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Well done to all Victorians who competed at the recent Australian Masters Rowing Championships at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. We were pleased to see plenty of success at club and state level across the 4 days of racing, including podium finishes for all 5 of our Victorian crews!
Our Men’s Quad Scull were first to race, finishing in 3:10.07 to claim Bronze in a hotly contested race, just short of South Australia (3:08.19) and Tasmania (3:10.04).
The Women’s Quad Scull crew of Bea Klein-van Mullekom, Ebony Ebenwaldner, Sarah Sekfy, and Christine Camiller finished in 3:27.17, narrowly defeating the New South Wales crew by 0.96 seconds to claim Gold! Impressively, this is the 8th consecutive win in the event for Victoria.
Our Men’s Eight rowed hard in 3:03.84 to claim Silver, but couldn’t catch an impressive South Australian crew, flying home in 2:59.70. This repeated itself in the Women’s Eight, with SA taking out the title in 3:23.18, and NSW also narrowly edging out our Victorian crew (+0.87), who claimed Bronze in a time of 3:27.57.
The Interstate racing concluded with the Women’s PR3 Single Scull, where Kim Hampton donned the Big White V for the first time to claim Bronze!
Special mention also to Melbourne RC (2nd), Carrum RC (5th), and Yarra Yarra RC (6th) for their impressive top 10 finishes in the Club Point Score. Melbourne’s position was certainly aided by the fantastic individual performances of Rod Stewart (3rd), Tanja Nishibata (5th), and Gregor O’Nians (7th).
